Psychology

Psychologists study individuals and groups to better understand how people, communities and societies function, and devise ways to empower them and help them thrive. We do this through our understanding of mental and biological functions that drive behaviour.

In Australia, psychologists must be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and listed with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

They must have a minimum of six years of university training, engage in ongoing education, and adhere to strict ethical standards.

Meet Yianni Sianis

My name is Yianni, a psychologist and Health Psychology registrar at You Psychology.

My approach is based in being open, genuine, collaborative, and overall, to provide high-quality care with a focus on whole-person mental health and wellbeing.

This includes offering psychological support and treatment across areas like:

  • Mood-related disorders

  • Mental health rehabilitation

  • Health management (IBS, pain, injury, motivation, sleep hygiene, etc)

  • Trauma

  • Workplace issues

  • Return to Work (formerly Work Cover)

  • Grief and Loss

  • Stress

  • Assertiveness

  •

I have a broad range of experience, having practiced across community psychology, mental health rehabilitation, occupational mental health, pain management, health promotion, group therapy, critical incidents, and supportive counselling. My particular areas of interest are in treating depressive and anxiety disorders, chronic health management, and men's health.

For my education, I studied my Bachelor of Psychological Science (Counselling and Interpersonal Skills) at UniSA, and my Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) and Master of Psyhchology (Health) at the University of Adelaide.

I strongly believe that all people are capable of great change, and my role is to support people to build the knowledge and skills to get there.
